Spoopies: Tales of Terror, animation short by Ian Mark Stewart is in the Brooklyn Film Festival 2021. This is online this year. Grateful we are in this festival! You can join the festival to watch it or check it out here:
We did it! On March 24, 2021 Tributum for Celtic Bagpipes and Full Orchestra, was recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under the direction of David Watkin, Grammy Awardee for “Best Baroque Instrumental Recording of 2015” Conductor.
Lorne MacDougall’s catalog includes performing on John Powell’s (incredible) scores for the “How To Train Your Dragon” series of movies, the movie Brave, and performing regularly with the Red Hot Chili Pipers (https://www.rhcp.scot/). Additional recording credits can be found here: https://www.lornemacdougall.com/discography
This project was recorded remotely, an awesome experience that went smoothly. PARMA recordings is based in Maine and Boston and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is based in Glasgow. I was here in Seattle listening to the recording in Glasgow. The orchestra recorded in the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow which was spectacular to listen to. My communication was directly with PAPRMA’s producers who conveyed all discussions with the orchestra conductor, David Watkin.
Audio production, mixing this week and next week. There will be an album, both digital and CD available in the next months. This is a compilation CD that includes 4 composers. I share more details as we get closer to completion. The album will be on the PARMA’S Navona Records label.
This is so exciting to think we were able to get this accomplished with all the issues going on this past year!
I once again collaborated with animator and artist, Ian Mark Stewart on another animation piece titled ” Spoopies” True Tales of Terror. This short animation features 4 true stories of terror experienced in childhood or as teens by 4 people. It was awesome to write music for this cool short and it’s not scary, just Spoopy! Ian is entering Spoopies in film festivals and I will update as I have info.
“Spoopy is an internet slang term used to describe something that is “spooky” but in a comical or cute way, such as a puppy in a ghost costume or a goofy Halloween video. It is based on a viral picture of a Halloween decoration that misspelled spooky as spoopy.”
Spoopies: Tales of Terror
Here is the other Halloween animation short I worked on with Ian. Love these two shorts!
Herman Blue: The Pumpkin Comic
Update: September 2020
Just as everyone else has had to postpone major events, projects, life experiences, work, education you name it, this too has been postponed until later this year. I should know in a few months when we will resume with the recording session and will update here as soon as I know.
In the meantime, I am writing new music, uploading sheet music to Sheet Music Plus and J.W.Pepper, taking an online class with Berklee School of Music online and going forward! I’m also really loving the broadcasts presented by RSNO and the Seattle Symphony which happen at least once a week. Of course donating to this symphonic organizations is very helpfull at this time. Youtube has channels for both of these orchestras and you can do a search and find their pre-recorded concerts. Below is my “news” regarding the upcoming recording session that has been delayed a bit.
Royal Scottish National Orchestra recording Tributum: April 2020
It’s with a grateful heart that I share this new opportunity with you. First, let me thank Burmer Music LLC for originally inviting me to create a new work for the Celebrate World Music Concert and CD recording in 2013. Since that eventful occasion, my piece, Tributum has been performed a few times in the U.S. and Canada. I originally composed this work for Chamber Orchestra and Bagpipes and later orchestrated Tributum for Full Orchestra and Bagpipes. And now the news…..
This past August I answered the “Call for Scores” by PARMA RECORDINGS and submitted an orchestral work. My piece was accepted and I’m so excited to announce that Tributum for Celtic Bagpipes and Full Orchestra will be recorded this Spring 2020 in Glasgow, Scotland with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The recording will be a compilation CD with several composers and released with PARMA recordings on their Navona PARMA based in New Hampshire records all over the world and handles scheduling, recording, mixing, promotion and distribution along with all digital formats, Apple, Spotify, Amazon and Pandora.
As we approach April I will be adding more information regarding the soloists for this recording session. Stay tuned because it’s going to be AWESOME!
Conversations and Collaborations with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra is an interview by PARMA with Bill Chandler, Director of Concerts and Engagements with the RSNO. It’s very interesting to learn about the RSNO history, their goals and what they are looking for in new music.

“The orchestra really enjoyed playing Tributum, and it was a hit with our audience as well.” Tony Smith, program director Louisville Philharmonia Orchestra
I am excited to share that Tributum for Celtic Bagpipes and Full Orchestra, was performed last summer 2018 in Louisville, Kentucky!
You may ask, why am I writing a blog now about the concert last year? This is how it works..
ASCAP sent me a royalty check from last year’s performances in the mail this past May. It takes several months to a year for the royalty checks to arrive and It’s hard to know who is performing my music unless they contact me directly.
Upon receiving my check from ASCAP I located the orchestra that had performed Tributum and contacted the program director asking if there was a program available He graciously sent me a text, with that awesome quote above, and took a few photos of the program. To say the least, I am thrilled that Tributum was performed by the Louisville Philharmonia Orchestra.
Bagpipers and Bodhran performers included: Great Highland Bagpipes: Zach Meihaus, Uilleann Pipes ( Irish Pipes): Cathy Wilde and Bodhran ( Celtic or Irish drum) Adam Cecil
Thank you Louisville Philharmonia Orchestra! Tributum for Celtic Bagpipes and Full Orchestra is available online at J.W.Pepper

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards main event at the Avalon was outstanding! I was nominated this year for Musica Bella, in the Music genre category for Jazz and I am so grateful and honored to have been one of the 11 nominees in to be included in this very elite list of musicinas .
The list included Paul Messina, who I’ve heard on ” Smooth Jazz” radio over the years and the winner in the jazz category, bassist, Alfonso Johnson, whose credits include performing with Carlos Santana, Phil Collins, the Grateful Dead and Chet Baker, to name a few. Yep.. that’s what I’m thinking, pretty darn amazing! I also found out through reading a bio on Alfonso that he is an adjunct professor at California Institute of the Arts, which is my Alma Mater, I received my piano performance degree from Cal Arts.
I’m just thrilled that Musica Bella was considered among these truly awesome jazz writers and musicians. Thank you Hollywood Music in Media!
The evening began with photos on the Red Carpet, always an awesome experience and awesome photographers.

My husband Walt and I had a banquet table with several nominees and their spouses/friends. We had winners and nominees at our table, lyricist and another jazz genre composer.
The show itself had musicians from the nominee lists and up and coming singer/ songwriters form American Idol. The Awards ceremony included the Music in Media and Music Genre Awardees and there were some of the most recognized names in the industry attending and emceeing the event. I got to meet and chat with some cool composers and writers. And, the after party was fabulous! I love attending this event and always feel honored to be a nominee in the HMMA’s.
Thank you again to the musicians that performed on Musica Bella and to producer, Burmer Music LLC.
Daniel and Danielle….(I know, right?)… were awesome! We had a great time prepping for the award ceremony. They came to me, met me at my hotel and performed their amazing artistry in my hotel room! Thank you Danielle and Daniel!
Cheers, and here’s to making more music in the world!
