Earned by Avant
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SEATTLE – (November 11, 2013) – “Tributum,” a concert piece written by award-winning composer Nan Avant for the Celebrate World Music! world premiere concert and CD, has been nominated for a 2013 Hollywood Music in Media Award. Performed in Seattle in March, Celebrate World Music! featured original works by eight composers, with 11 solo artists playing traditional instruments from around the world, accompanied by the Northwest Sinfonia Orchestra, conducted by Grammy-winner David Sabee. “Tributum” was performed by Dr. Eliot Grasso on Uilleann Pipes and Kevin Auld on Great Highland Bagpipes. The concert and CD were produced by Dr. Glenna Burmer and Tim Huling.
“’Tributum’ pays homage to the great music of Ireland and Scotland. There is a depth of emotion in the Celtic Bagpipes that is unique to these instruments. The imagery of the Scottish Highlands, the battlefields of Glenn Coe, the melancholic strains of the lyrical music of Ireland and envisioning the rolling hills of the Emerald Isle all played in my mind when composing this work,” said Avant.
Two-time Emmy-winning composer/arranger Hummie Mann praises the concert piece: “In ‘Tributum,’ Avant masterfully blends ethnic Celtic instruments with symphony orchestra to create a wonderfully moving work. Her majestic melodies and lush orchestrations transport the listener to the British Isles – it is an aural voyage worth taking.”
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) honors A-list composers, producers, songwriters, music supervisors, technology companies and music legends for their contributions in film, television, video games, movie trailers and other visual mediums. Winners will be announced Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the 6th annual awards event at The Fonda Theater in Hollywood, Calif.
The HMMA nomination joins a growing list of accolades earned by Avant. “Tributum” has already received an Award of Merit for Composition at the 2013 Global Media Awards while many of her other projects have been lauded as well. Her music has received numerous awards from the Park City Film Music Festival including Gold Medals and a Director’s Choice Silver Medal for Full Brain Films’ Unremembered, a feature film directed by Greg Kerr.
